FAQ

Direct mail FAQ: questions contractors ask.

Straight answers about cost, budget, timing, targeting, tracking, and formats. Still deciding? See programs, how it works, and tracking.

How much does a direct mail campaign cost?

It depends on how many homes you mail, how often you mail them, the format, the program, and USPS postage. Every campaign is quoted to your service area, program, format, and volume. Print and postage are passed through as their own lines, and tracking and reporting are included on every campaign. The number that matters most is cost per booked job: what the campaign cost, divided by the jobs it booked. A direct mail consultation includes the quote for your area.

What is cost per booked job?

It is your total campaign spend divided by the booked jobs the mail produced. Count everything the campaign cost, including print and postage, and count only jobs that were booked, not every call. Every piece has built-in tracking, so you see calls, booked jobs, and revenue by campaign and drop. More on trackable direct mail.

Is there a minimum?

Every plan is sized to your service area and to how many new jobs your crews can take on. Your mail plan shows the recommended volume and the quote for your area.

How much should I budget for direct mail?

Home service industry experts often recommend investing approximately 10% of gross revenue into marketing for growth-focused companies. We suggest allocating 5% of gross revenue to direct mail as part of your overall marketing strategy. A direct mail consultation sizes the campaign to your service area, goals, and crew capacity.

How long until mail lands in homes?

Typically 12 to 14 days from campaign approval to in-home delivery. Timelines can vary with the format, production, and USPS delivery schedules.

How often should I mail?

Consistency matters. We typically recommend a six-week mailing cadence. It builds recognition with the same homes, brings in leads, and keeps a steady flow of jobs.

How do you decide which homeowners to target?

It starts with your service area and your best customers. Targeted lists go to specific households, filtered by location, and radius lists go to the homes within a radius of your office or a recent job. Property age and homeownership targeting is available on targeted lists.

Do you handle design, printing, and mailing?

Yes. Mail Wins runs the whole process: strategy and targeting, design, printing, mailing, and tracking. See how it works.

Which formats can you mail?

Standard postcards: 4×6, 5.5×8.5, 6×9, and 6×11. Oversized postcards: 6.25×9, 6.25×11, 6.5×9, 8.5×11 (jumbo), 12×15 (super jumbo), and 12×14. Mini postcards. Letter packs: 1 and 2 page. See all formats.

Which trades do you work with?

HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical, and garage door companies. Only those five.

What response rate should I expect?

Results vary based on brand recognition, targeting, offers, call booking rates, and other factors. Direct mail can deliver strong booking rates, higher average tickets, and better closing opportunities compared to digital leads. Some campaigns report booking rates of around 75%, although results vary. Built-in tracking shows you what your own campaigns book, by campaign and drop.

How do you track calls, booked jobs, and revenue?

Every piece has built-in tracking, such as a tracked call number and, where it fits, a QR code. We use call tracking, CRM integration where available, and sales attribution. Calls are matched to booked jobs and revenue in your CRM, so you see leads, booked jobs, completed jobs, and return on investment by campaign and drop. More on trackable direct mail.

Do I sign a long-term contract?

No. There are no long-term contracts and no setup or design fees. You choose each campaign, and you can stop anytime.

Which areas do you mail?

We mail nationally through partner print and mail facilities.
